European HIV-Hepatitis Testing Week

There is an urgent need to change strategies for testing for HIV and hepatitis in Europe. Far too many are unaware of their infection and late diagnosis is common, meaning higher mortality rates, greater risk of onward transmission and increased financial costs. For the first time organisations and institutions across Europe are uniting during European Testing Week (20-27 November) to put focus on the need to increase testing for these two conditions, HIV and hepatitis, recognising the overlap both between challenges with testing and patient groups.

Only ten months after the violent attack on Charlie Hebdo, we wish to extend again our most sincere condolences and sympathy to the victims’ families, friends, and to the French nation.

Updated advice on body fat changes and lactic acidosis with HIV medicines

EMA recommends removal of class warnings for several medicines

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has updated the advice on the risk of body fat changes and lactic acidosis with medicines for the treatment of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. As a result, HIV medicines will no longer require a warning concerning fat redistribution in their product information, and a number of medicines of the class ‘nucleoside and nucleotide analogues’ will no longer require a warning about lactic acidosis.
