On 13 April, EACS released a multi-partner statement urging nations across Europe to provide easily accessible, high-quality HIV care for displaced people from Ukraine living with HIV.

This was in conjunction with a protocol for standardized management and data sharing for people displaced from Ukraine living with HIV also released today. This was developed by the World Health Organisations European Office, in partnership with the European AIDS Clinical Society (EACS), the WHO Collaborating Centre at the Centre of Excellence for Health, Immunity and Infections (CHIP), the Euroguidelines in Central and Eastern Europe (ECEE) network group and the Public Health Centre, MOH, Ukraine.

The statement is now available in Ukrainian, Czech, Polish, Romanian, Hungarian and Slovak.

Under the umbrella of the EACS Medical Exchange Programme, SCEP aims at promoting clinical, research and educational links between centres across Europe and facilitating exchange of models of clinical care in HIV medicine and allied specialities.

Fellows will have the opportunity to visit an EACS Clinical/Research Excellence Center (CREC) specialised in HIV medicine for a period of 2 to 4 weeks. There will also be an opportunity for the CREC to nominate a member of its team for a reciprocal visit for the same period of time and with the same financial rules.

We would like to congratulate our Governing Board member, Professor Jens Lundgren on his appointment to Knight of the Order of Dannebrog by Her Majesty the Queen of Denmark, on her Birthday Honours list on 16 April. 

This is an amazing and a richly-deserved achievement.

MOOC will review different aspects of HIV infection: from its biological origin and its identification as the causative agent of AIDS, to the current epidemiology, advances in knowledge about viral persistence and host immune responses, vaccine candidates, strategies of eradication, and community perspectives by international experts in the respective fields.

For World Health Day on 7 April, we spoke with Dr Juan Ambrosioni, the new EACS Guidelines Coordinator:

"The ultimate aim of EACS and EACS Guidelines is to reduce the HIV burden across Europe and improve the quality of life of people living with HIV. The EACS Guidelines should not be seen as a replacement of other sources of information. Instead, the Guidelines consist of a single document that highlights essential knowledge required for managing all HIV-related topics."
