World AIDS Day 2024: Honouring Progress; Ready For the Future

Today, on World AIDS Day, we stand together to honour the enduring strength of our global HIV community. The community led the charge for the very first World AIDS Day in 1988 - mobilising to raise awareness, demand action, and fight stigma – and they have not stopped since.

Over the years, this unwavering commitment has brought in diverse stakeholders. Together, we have achieved plenty: deeper understanding of HIV, broader testing and earlier diagnosis, better prevention including pre-exposure prophylaxis, promotion of testing, stronger links to clinical care, better and more accessible therapies, the global embrace of U=U, and the widespread adoption of the 90-90-90 framework in many countries.

EACS to join EU Parliament Roundtable on HIV Priorities

On 17 December 2024, a Roundtable will be held at the EU-Parliament in Strasbourg, co-organised by MEP Vytenis Andriukaitis (S&D, Lithuania) & MEP Tomislav Sokol (EPP, Croatia) and in collaboration with the European AIDS Clinical Society, UNITE Parliamentarians Network for Global Health and HIV Outcomes.

This invitation-only event will focus on prioritising HIV-related issues in the new European Parliament and European Commission. It aims to raise awareness among MEPs about HIV-related issues across the European landscape. EACS Vice President, Miłosz Parczewski and Treasurer, Christoph Boesecke, will represent EACS, emphasising the need for greater political engagement, and addressing the main roadblocks Europe faces to achieve the 95-95-95 UNAIDS’ targets by 2030.

Experts gather in Athens for the Standard of Care meeting

On 16-17 October, EACS held the biennial Standard of Care for HIV and Co-infections meeting in Athens, Greece. The aim of the meeting was developing a common standard of HIV clinical care throughout Europe.

EACS’ decision to hold the 2024 meeting in Athens, Greece and to invite healthcare and community representatives from Türkiye and Greece to help organise it was timely.
